Interaction between the turf and sole of the wedge determines the launch and spin of the shot. TaylorMade took that into account and milled the sole of their wedges allowing smooth contact with the wedge and the turf. On top of that, they have bored a 1.5″ shaft installation that takes weight out of the hosel and moves the center of gravity toward the center of the face. In the hosel is a red polymer that gives a softer feel for players.
TaylorMade admits to produce their wedges using machinery and not by hand like its’ competitors, so that imperfections are kept to a minimum.
