When was the last time you saw someone using a 2-iron? Probably a long time ago. Many pros always direct amateurs toward hybrids due to the forgiveness and high launch they produce.
However, for the last couple months I have come across some single digit golfers that use 2-irons instead of hybrids. When asking them why, they replied saying that the 2-iron is easier to hit than a hybrid. This really confused me until I hit their 2-iron.
I noticed that the 2-iron was a lot easier to hit than my hybrid because of how convenient the club looked at address. By “convenient”, I mean that the iron looked like it would cut right through the grass and launch the ball smoothly. Rather than a chunky hybrid, with the sole catching the ground just before you make contact, resulting in a chunk. I also like that the 2 iron’s leading edge was a lot lower and closer to the ground, because I have a tendency to thin my hybrid.
