As time goes on, we are seeing a constant trend with tour players: THEY WANT FORGIVENESS TOO!
In the past, many of the best players in the world always wanted the small size, most unforgiving club to hit. Some said it was the way it looked that helped the performance, but the stats never added up. In the shop, we always hear amateurs reiterating what the old school tour pros want: “The tour version please.” “I just can’t get over how big it is at address.” “I’m not really looking for forgiveness.”
If you’re not shooting under par consistently, you need all the help you can get.
Even down to the putter, tour pros want the most forgiveness. Blades are almost out of the picture now. With mallets such as the TaylorMade Tour Spider, and Scotty Cameron X7 giving the greatest stats, tour players are making the switch to mallets.
Scotty Cameron is coming out with the Futura 5.5M. It has a smaller head than the SC X7 which helps players set up to the ball. Justin Thomas switched to the SC X7, but with the size of the Futura 5.5M.
The idea behind these modern mallets, is having the highest moment of inertia. You can achieve this by having all the weight far back from the face.
That being said, if you are looking for a smaller mallet the SC Futura 5.5M is coming out August 25.
What kind of putter are you using right now?
