PGA Tour players like Rory Mcilroy have decided to to a split set. Most amateurs can benefit from doing this, especially if they struggle with consistency in the long irons.
Maybe you were thinking of a split set between the P750s and the P770s in the longer irons. Or maybe even the P770s in the short clubs, with the P790s in the longer clubs. Some players just like the distance in the longer irons from the P790s. Which ever set up you decide to go with, the last thing you want to do is have arbitrary gaps in distance.
