Putt Like Steve Stricker

Winning this week along side his partner Sean O’Hair, Steve Stricker is known for his putting stroke, and no wrist swing. A few years back, Tiger Woods was seen getting a lesson from Stricker on the practice green. When the clutchest putter asks someone from advice, that says a lot.

Something to note about Steve’s putting game is that he has great tempo. His preshot routine is consistent, and his stroke is “one… two… go…”.

Another thing to look at is how Steve has the heel of the putter above the ground. He taps the toe of his putter twice and strokes it. Having the putter more up and down like this lets him take the arc out. Most amateurs have too much wrist angle at set up when they putt. Having your wrists as vertical as possible takes out the excess wrist action; the angle is easily achievable every time you putt.

The next time you are struggling with your putt, try to keep the putter as vertically as possible and maybe you can win the club championship.
