Is Rory McElroy Living in the Real World

Or is he a golfing genius… Ok, so the headline may be a bit disingenuous, but having watched Rory on CNN’s Living Golf program I have to confess to being a bit confused as to what to make of him. What got me thinking was when he was asked what his goals for the year were - basically he seemed to imply nothing short of a starring role in the European Ryder Cup Team would do (he didn’t actually say that mind, but I felt it was implied). Ok so he has been a fairly prodigious talent in the Irish Amateur seen, but that’s a fairly small scene. He had a very good British Open as an amateur but so have lots of amateurs. Remember Justin Rose 10 years ago coming 4th and then promptly disappearing off the golfing map for the best part of a decade. I fear for Rory, I do not think the CNN feature will have done him any favours, particularly as he was pitted in the same program against a feature on Padraig Harrington whose unassuming manner created an uneasy juxtaposition whereby one could only relate to the latter.

Any one else think Rory is on ‘Planet Rory’ or is he the real deal????

Gennius? disingenious? amatuers? dont? particulalry? Are you striving to be the worst speller/punctuator in golf writing history? Take some time and check over your work, man. It takes away from the story you try to tell, from the points you attempt to establish.

Rory McElroy is the best new talent in golf in years, he is also a very nice young man. This article does a disservice to him and to golf.
