  • Fairway Golf is located in San Diego. So we usually do not get too cold or wet all year round. Not everyone can move to San Diego but you can be ready for cold or rainy weather so you can enjoy your golf! Last year I played a round in January in Colorado and it was great! Quick round, great exercise. If you are ready with the best winter or rain gear, weather will not stop you from playing a round of golf. Be prepared! Let me introduce you to some hot winter or rain gear that we see sales […]

  • Thinking about doing a combo set with TaylorMade’s P series irons? There’s nothing wrong with asking for more forgiveness in the longer irons. PGA Tour players like Rory Mcilroy have decided to to a split set. Most amateurs can benefit from doing this, especially if they struggle with consistency in the long irons. Maybe you were thinking of a split set between the P750s and the P770s in the longer irons. Or maybe even the P770s in the short clubs, with the P790s in the longer clubs. Some players just like the distance in the longer irons from the P790s. […]

  • Yesterday, I fit a gentlemen that was in the market for a new driver. He told me at the beginning of the fitting he would only be willing to purchase a brand new driver if there were significant advantages, so I knew he had high expectations. His current driver was a PING G LST with a Graphite Design Tour AD DI-7 S. He was fit from another company, but he said that he was fit for accuracy. The PING G LST was designed to reduce spin, which in the end helps people hit it straighter. As for the shaft, many […]

  • I never thought I would see the day that Titleist brings a new ball that is comparable to the ProV1 and ProV1X. For 17 years the ProV line was on top of its game. I can’t see the ProV line disappearing anytime soon, but for Titleist to introduce the AVX ball is rather interesting to me. How could the AVX ball possibly compare to the ProV1 and ProV1X? Titleist is only offering this ball to select locations (FairwayGolf being one of them), so getting your hands on these are very difficult. Today is the release of the Titleist AVX golf […]

  • If you want to hit your driver further, launch angle is the key to distance. I find many of our customers coming into a driver fitting and barely getting to the optimum launch angle. Of course, with different ball speeds come different OPTIMUM launch angles. Not getting into any specifics, but optimum launch conditions vary from 14 to 17 degrees. What does launch angle do? Launch angle dictates how high the ball initially starts. In order to get the most out of your driver, it is crucial to get the ball started high. Having a high ball flight (not skying […]

  • MALLET LOVERS WILL GO CRAZY over TaylorMade’s latest TP Red Collection. The color red on putters has been a recent trend on the PGA Tour. The NEW TM TP Red Collection features the PureRoll insert that was infamous on the Spider Tour Putter. The 45 degree grooves are meant to get the ball rolling with top spin, so that it hits the intended line. Jason Day is playing the Ardmore 2 which features a “fang” shape with a crank hosel. A crank hosel is what you see on mostly on traditional blade putters. Justin Rose has been gaming the Chaska […]

  • This iron takes forgiveness to the next level. The M-CGB iron has almost all of TaylorMade’s different technologies over the years. The iron features GEOCOUSTIC for the best sound during impact. Milled tungsten weights are placed towards the bottom of the face; more weight in the bottom promotes higher launch. This iron will help those that need to get the ball up in the air. Hitting the ball off-center would be another great reason to switch to the TaylorMade M-CGB. This is the largest iron I have seen this year. The Face Slots on the face really help maintain ball […]

  • Has your swing speed been slowing down lately? You should probably be playing a light-weight club. Many golfers are told that changing to a light weight shaft gets the job done, however there is still weight in the head which can make it feel head heavy. Callaway has recently released their lighter weight GBB Epic Star in the United States. Callaway states that this is their lightest club ever weighing in at 286 grams. What makes the Epic Star so light is the 39 gram Grand Bassara shaft. Also, the grip is 25% lighter than the standard GP New Decade […]

  • I was surprised when I heard that Cleveland Golf was coming out their own irons. For that last few years Cleveland only took care of wedges and putters while Srixon provided all the other clubs for players. Players like Keegan Bradley, Graeme Mcdowell, Smylie Kaufman and Hideki Matsuyama always had two different brand names in their bag. It will be interesting to see if any of them choose to play the NEW Cleveland CBX. APPEARANCE  I really like irons that have a satin finish to them, because it is slightly distracting when the sunlight is reflecting off glossy finishes. For […]

  • Four different irons, with one thing in common… INCREDIBLE FEEL! There is no debate that Mizuno irons have incredible feel. Soft to the hands and ears, Mizuno has dialed in feel and sound. Most PGA Tour players pay close attention to not only feel, but sound. Believe it or not, the sound a club makes during impact can dictate whether or not you think it is soft or not. Mizuno is one of the few golf manufacturers that have come close to mastering their own forging process. The MP-18 iron line consists of four different irons: the Muscle Back (MB), […]
