  • Taylormade’s Ultimate Driving Iron (UDI) release a couple of years ago was decent but not great. However, there is a cult following for the club. This new Taylormade P790 UDI that we have seen on the range at the WGC Bridgestone looks a bit smaller in sole width but still has a generous blade-length to increase forgiveness. This model, with its new technology and sleeker design should appeal to the masses a little bit more. Keep in mind that these irons are not usually used from the fairway but they can be. Don’t base your opinion of them on how […]

  • New players irons are being spotted at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational this week. Dustin Johnson is reportedly testing some new irons eerily similar to the ones made for Rory McIlroy (RORS-Proto satin) and the ones for Justin Rose (ROSE-Proto chrome). This iron bares a different badging, P730, which ties in to Taylormade’s other players irons for a completion of the P700 series. The sole width and blade length (77mm for the P770 & 75mm for the P750) seems to be the only difference between the two other models but the P730 is a true muscleback design for the best ball […]

  • Odyssey has decided to further it’s O-Works line with the microhinge inserts to include a few classic shapes in new colors. The black and red heads have been requested by tour players for a while but they all want the new O-Works microhinge insert in the head. The insert improves putting performance by flexing on impact and reducing backspin. This reduces skidding and bouncing of the golf ball initially after impact which helps the ball hold true to the starting line and allows for more consistent distance control. O-Works Black shapes: #2W, #3T, #1, 330M, #2M CS, #7S O-Works Red shapes: 2-Ball, […]

  • Here at Fairway Golf, we have tested the latest and greatest golf products many times. There are very few instances when a new demo impresses us, but the Vertical Groove Driver blew us away. Now before you stop reading this blog, hear me out and try not to think of John Daly. 🙂 When I first saw the Vertical Groove Driver (the VGD), I immediately thought, “Wow, just another cheap start-up trying to show that being different is cool.” I mean, vertical grooves on a driver? I imagined the grooves grabbing the ball even harder and promoting a slice or […]

  • When was the last time you saw someone using a 2-iron? Probably a long time ago. Many pros always direct amateurs toward hybrids due to the forgiveness and high launch they produce. However, for the last couple months I have come across some single digit golfers that use 2-irons instead of hybrids. When asking them why, they replied saying that the 2-iron is easier to hit than a hybrid. This really confused me until I hit their 2-iron. I noticed that the 2-iron was a lot easier to hit than my hybrid because of how convenient the club looked at […]

  • Fourteen Golf has been around since 1981. Not many people in the USA are familiar with the Japanese brand. The most popular wedges that we sell in the shop are the Titleist SM6 and Cleveland RTX wedges. In my opinion, the Fourteen RM-22 is performs just as well if not, better. What I like about the Fourteen RM-22 wedges are the black and silver nickel finishes. Rather than the sun glaring in your eyes, the finish will keep that to a minimum. My friend introduced me to the Fourteen wedges, and I immediately loved the performance I was getting out […]

  • You love your three wood, but you just wish it would go a little longer. There are many possible ways to do, besides swinging harder. You can extend the length on your wood, but you lose control and consistency. You can add lead tape to make the club head heavier, but that might throw your temp off in your other clubs. You have looked into buying a 13.5 degree wood, but you can’t find one with modern technology. It is not a secret that trying to find a fairway wood stronger than 15 degrees is hard to find in today’s […]

  • Take a look at Titleist‘s new family of irons that will be released this fall. The Quicken Loans National is the tournament that introduces the new Titleist products to the Tour every year and the trend contines this year. The lineup includes a new AP3 iron model that fits right between the company’s popular AP2 and AP1 in terms of size. The new AP3 appears to be a hollow-construction iron of some type that should launch the ball higher and with more ballspeed than the AP2 but has a smaller footprint and less offset than the AP1. The T-MB also […]

  • When choosing a golf ball, there are two things to consider: Do I want a hard ball or a soft ball? Which part of my game am I struggling with, long or short? The type of ball you use really does matter. Speaking from personal experience, I always struggled with keeping the ball in play off the tee with the ProV1x. I then switched to the softer ProV1 to reduce side spin with my driver. I sacrificed the green-side spin for accuracy off the tee. Since that switch, I have lost an average of three strokes per round. So how […]

They also have four new driver heads for their XD series. I want to compare the TourB X-Blade and the J15 MB, since blade-lovers are always looking for the latest and greatest blades.   When the J15 MBs came out, many people drooled over the look of them because they were so clean. They were very compact and smooth at sight, which was the main reason our customers purchased a set. Not only […]

From the first hit, I knew he found his new set of irons. He did not believe the 15 yard increase that he was getting with the Callaway Epic irons. […]
