Since its opening in 2003, has established itself as one of the best courses west of the Oslo fjord, bearing all the hallmarks of guru golf architect Jeremy Turner. The course is situated in wooded farmland on Notteroy¸ near T¸nsberg, and is part parkland and part forest, with tree-lined fairways and natural biotopes. On paper it looks easy but N¸tter¸y is noted for its challenging layout, fast greens, broad playing surfaces and Turner-esque water hazards. The difficulties are hidden in a rolling landscape that seldom offers a flat lie and in greens with undulations so unbelievably subtle that you often don’t realize a particular ridge exists until you see your ball falling away from the hole. Fairway bunkers and trees squeeze the landing areas and penalise poor concentration. Most greens allow for bump-and-runs, but such shots require impeccable execution, especially with difficult pin positions. Notteroy is a must-play for the serious golfer, and the skerries of the Vestfold coast a must-see for the serious tourist!
