Las Vegas
Grab Some Clubs On A Sin City Golf Tour
If it hadnt been for Las Vegas, Nevadas sole claim to fame would have been the Santa Fe Expedition and the subsequent Mexican-American war. But thank god for Vegas and its slew of casinos, clubs and entertainment avenues, Santa Fe has a glamorous successor to pull people to Vegas. Little known to a lot there is another reason people get packing for Vegas golf tours to swing away at some of the swankiest courses in the country.
However seductive the attractions of the Sin City may be, there is a growing group of loyalists who plan dedicated golf tours to Vegas and easily give the rah-rah glam a miss. A better part of this flock shows up at the Badlands Golf Club designed by Johnny Miller and Chi-Chi Rodriguez, mostly for its near diabolical desert layout that yields more lost balls than youd have patience to recover. Badlands was Vegas first public 27-hole track and has often figured on Golf Digests top 10. For anywhere between $75 and $190, Badlands is the touristy thing to do on a Vegas golf vacation that sends you back with bruises from the prolific cacti, oodles of satisfaction and perhaps a slightly bruised ego. We told you, its hard.
Las Vegas, one of the most peopled cities in America, started out life as grasslands that supplied water to the Antonio Armijo party heading north along the old Spanish trail. By 1905 it had been established as a railroad town and by the time Bugsy Siegels Flamingo started strutting its stuff in 1946, Vegas had become the undoubted entertainment capital of the world. But even before the sin shop opened up, the Las Vegas Golf Club, simply known then as the Muni had already been born in 1938 and with just 9 holes had become the darling of the glitterati. On your golf vacation this is one course youd want to touch upon and for green fees from $75 to $105, this Casey O Callahan designed public track is a pleasure and a pain for the skills it demands.
Vegas brings with it compelling attractions the Casinos, Caesar and the spectacular stage shows –but if you are a golfer on a golf tour of The Sin City, itll be hard to keep your clubs in the bag with more than 100 courses strewn throughout the city. Sin Citys most mesmerizing courses have the scenery to show-off and would leave you speechless with the rapidly decreasing pages in your checkbook. But they are worth it. Dont believe us? Tee it up at one of the tracks on the Paiute Golf resort for an eye-opener. Your golf travel budget would see a dent of $200 to $220 on this Pete Dye designed course sculpted solely for demolishing a golf holiday makers hubris as well as for some of the most satisfying golf you can get in Vegas.
Theres more golf than you could play on one Vegas golf tour. Although most people would club in courses like the upscale new $500 Wynn Las Vegas designed by Steve Wynn and Tom Fazio, the dramatic 18-hole Shadow Creek and Rees Jones designed Cascata GC in one golf package there would always be some that slipped out of your fingers. Whether you need one or more than one golf packages dont miss out on The Falls Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas, Bali Hai Golf Club, Reflection Bay, and Sienna Golf Club.
Some more courses that would make the day for your Vegas golf vacation are Primm Valley Desert Course, TPC Canyons and Revere at Anthem. If you lose way too many balls, there is always a $ 400 Margarita to drown your sorrows in. Salute!
