A Golf Vacation In Canary Islands

Armilla Golf Course in Canary Islands Volcanoes, pirates, exotic birds and trees …these are only some of the thing that come to mind when you talk of Canary Islands, the seven magical gems off the coast of Morocco. Part of the Kingdom of Spain, Canary Islands derive their name from the Berber word ‘Tkanaren’ or possibly from the Latin Insularia Canaria. Originally inhabited by the Guanches, Canary Islands have often been conjectured to be Atlantis, the mythical lost continent. However, the charms of this archipelago are not lost on any visitor to the Canary Islands and tourism forms the backbone of its economy. With diverse terrains and a fabulous climate, the several golf courses on Canary Islands are the major tourist attractions and attract many a golf holiday maker.

The good year-round weather and world class courses are aided by the presence of first class hotels and amenities making golf tour of Canary Islands a memorable experience. Canary Islands are famous for their breathtaking beaches and golf travel takes you island – hopping from La Palma, Hierro, Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.

Tenerife is the largest of all the islands and the place where your golf tour would ideally begin. Give your golf vacation a jump start with a round at the Real Club de Golf Tenerife located in Northern Tenerife. Designed in collaboration by several designers like Andres Alberto, Alberto Lucena, Joaquin Laynez and Aureliano Yanes, this 18-hole championship course hosts the Pro-Am Tito Abreu Championship among others. Tough undulating greens, beautiful pine, eucalyptus and laurel trees around the fairways and well placed bunkers make this course challenging and heart-warming at the same time (€50-€48). Other courses to play on your golf holiday in Tenerife are Golf Del Sur (€54-€52) and Amarilla Golf & Country Club and (€54-€52).

Point your golf travel to the island of Lanzarote to enjoy a few rounds at courses like The Costa Tequise Golf Club located just a short 11 miles from the capital city of Arrecife De Lanzarote. Designed by John Harris, this 18-hole charmer is set at the base of an ancient volcano giving you a stunning terrain to play on. Lava rock formations, stunning views of the sea and huge palms dancing in the winds are just some of the things that could break your concentration. But don’t be tricked by all the scenery because the track at Tequise is very challenging, especially when the wind lends a hand (€68-€55).

Other courses that must be included in your Canary Islands golf package are the 18-hole course at Fuerteventura Golf Club in Antigua on the Fuerteventura island (€47), Campo de Golf de Maspalomas (€60 - €39) and the Las Palmas Golf Club (€60 - €54) on the island of Gran Canaria.
If you get some time out from all the other attractions on Canary Islands like sailing, swimming and horseback riding, fluff up your golf package with these courses: Golf Costa Adeje on Tenerife island (€ 55) and Salobre Golf & Resort on Gran Canaria for just €70 - €45.
