Adventure Golf Travel: Tunisia Packs In A Punch

Visit Eldjem Colosseum when Golfing in MoroccoWith the emerald Mediterranean forming 1300 kilometers of its northern border and the mighty Atlas Mountains making up the southern periphery, the Republic of Tunisia enjoys diverse landscapes and the best of two continents. Undoubtedly, tourism is a booming business here and gradually, Tunisia is also gathering momentum as a golf holiday destination, especially after having hosted a series of top championships.

Tunisia has always played a prominent role in history first with the city of Carthage threatening the Roman empire and as its ‘bread basket’ on subjugation. Inhabited by the North African Berber tribes since times immemorial, Tunisia has been variously occupied by Phoenicians, Arabs, the Spanish and later by the French. A potpourri of different cultures has enriched its heritage and there is a lot for a tourist, whether he is on a golf vacation or otherwise, to experience.

Tunisia boasts of six brilliantly designed courses in different regions and a golf package can easily include all of them. Traveling within the country is easy and safe and the golf is unhurried, un-crowded and quite affordable. When you plan a golf tour to Tunisia you can be sure you’d be surprised often, as when you encounter the Golf De Carthage in La Soukra, Tunis for the first time. Established in 1927, Golf De Carthage is the oldest course in Africa. This 18 hole course is spread over 4432 meters and plays for a par of 66. Wide fairways meander through old eucalyptus trees and the well kept greens require a skilled player (EUR 25 – EUR 22).

The Citrus Golf Club in the city of Hammamet offers two courses that must be included in your golf travel – the 18-hole Le Oliviers which runs to 6215 meters par 72 () and the 18 – hole 6250 meters par 72 La Foret. Both courses have been designed by Ronald Fream and built around six lakes and Olive Tree forests surrounding the property. Play these two challenging courses on your golf vacation for just £42 each.

Another stunning Ronald Fream course in Hammamet that would make the day for any golf holiday is The Yasmine Golf Course, 12 kms north of the city. Wide fairways lead to stepped greens and two lakes create natural water hazards making this 18-hole course a test of your skills. The course is spread over 6115 meters and plays to a par of 72 for just £35. Another must play course in Hammamet on your golf holiday is the Tabarka Golf Course.

Your golf travel to Tunisia would be like a box of chocolates, only you know that each time you open the box, there would be a delightful course waiting to be enjoyed. Don’t believe us? Try courses like the El Kantaoui Golf Course (£28), Monastir Golf Course (£26), Ronald Fream designed Flamingo Golf Course in Monastir, Chris Pitman designed, 18-hole Palm Links Golf Course and the Martin Hawtree designed 27-holes Djerba Golf Course.
