Situated about 20 minutes north of Oslo, close to Gardermoen International Airport, the course was officially opened on 8 June 2002 with the intention of being among the worlds best courses according to quality, design and service. Many top European Tour golfers have played Miklagard, including Ian Wosnam, Tony Johnstone and Henrik Bjrnstad. The challenging nature of this championship course certainly impressed the likes of Trevor Immelmann and Robert Karlsson, who described the greens as the best they had ever played on. One of the most tranquil courses in the Oslo region is just a 20 minute drive from the centre of the capital. Asker is a delightful facility set in mature woodland offering glimpses of the fjord with Oslo in the background. On paper, the rolling topography surrounding three natural lakes generates a certain amount of confusion, with the three last holes appearing to be tagged on as an afterthought. In reality, the entire park is a coherent collection of farms, cottages and biotopes so picturesque you feel good just being there. The result is a course that simply blends in with the
surroundings. Typical of this type of course is the clever use of natural ridges and undulations left by retreating glaciers. Untypical are five par 5s giving almost 2,300 metres of challenging fairway. The feature hole must be the 18th, a tricky 119-metre water shot in front of the clubhouse that either attracts a round of applause or a great deal of sympathy!
