The East and West were always stunning examples of golf course design and architecture at its very highest level, and in 1998 when Kensington Golf Club joined forces with Royal Johannesburg - a major event in the history of South African Golf in itself - the sale of their property provided added funding which was utilised for improvements to the clubhouse and both courses, the results of which are the outstanding facilities that await any golfer who is fortunate enough to play on these picturesque parkland layouts. Many Sunshine Tour events, Challenge Matches and three South African Opens have been played at this stunning venue since it opened in 1937. Mr. Allison, an English golf course architect, designed this championship layout and construction was assigned to the South African professional golfer, Mr. A. F. Tomsett.
