Celtic Manor Golf

The Celtic Manor Resort is a golf-centric hotel and leisure resort in the city of Newport, South Wales, United Kingdom. The Resort is owned by Welsh billionaire Sir Terry Matthews and the CEO is Matthews’ son Dylan Matthews.

It will be the venue for the Ryder Cup Matches in the year 2010, marking the first time the Cup will be played in Wales. The Matches will be played on the Resort’s new “Twenty Ten” course; the first golf course specifically designed to host the biennial event.

Overview
The Resort consists of two conjoined hotels; a golf and country club; and a multi-purpose conference centre. The Resort is located on the south-facing side of Christchurch Hill in urban East Newport, overlooking junction 24 of the M4 motorway. Ian Woosnam

Ian Harold Woosnam OBE (born 2 March 1958) is a British professional golfer from Wales. He was one of the “Big Five” generation of European golfers, all born within 12 months of one another, who all won majors, and made Europe competitive in the Ryder Cup. His peers in this group were Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer and Sandy Lyle.

Career outline
Woosnam was born in the town of Oswestry in England, and his family lived in the nearby village of St Martin’s in Shropshire. He started playing at the unique Llanymynech Golf Club - which is partly in Wales and partly in England. He is short for a male golfer at 5 ft 4½ in (1.64 m), but he is a powerful hitter.
