      Wales Golf Vacation

Mountain Ponies WalesWant affordable, historical, mysteriously captivating courses to play on? Plan your next golf vacation to Wales that little country full of beautiful courses, the Britons are not telling you about. With nearly 200 hundred courses and a slew of exciting outdoor sports like hiking, horseback riding, climbing and fishing, Wales descends whole heartedly on the unsuspecting golf traveler who came here only to play golf.

Most courses in Wales have their origin steadfastly dripping in history. Take, for instance, the par 69, 6685 yard Roman Road Course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. True to his style and bestowing special favors on a course located near his birthplace, Aberystwyth, Jones Sr. has put together a bagful of surprises, each one harder than the last. Include it in your golf holiday for this 18-hole championship course offers a variety of tees on each hole, blind shots and steep rises and drops to test every golfers skill and technique. The history part in the course comes from the fact that the layout traces an ancient hillside route overlooking a Roman village. Before you play any other course on your golf tour, play the Roman Road, anything else is sacrilege. Once you are through with Roman Road take your clubs to the par 3 Coldra Woods, another Robert Trent Jones Sr. masterpiece and one of the finest short courses in the country.

Wales offers every kind of terrain to the golf holiday maker from mountains to sea side golf to choose from. Golf is never cost prohibitive and always offers incredible scenery to go with the swings. Case in point is the century old Llandrindod Wells Golf Club in mid Wales. A fabulous inclusion to any golf package, Llandrindod fills you with a sense of awe and excitement knowing it was designed by six-times Open champion Harry Vardon. Located near the beautiful Victorian Spa town of Llandrindod Wells, this 18 hole beauty can be quite deceiving. If you thought this was your golf packages easy day, you are in for a surprise this Upland Links course shows you its tough side right from the first tee and keeps going with its blind shots and tough fairways.

Wales is Great Britains Castle land with more castles in one place than anywhere on the earth. Castle viewing can be a great distraction on your golf travel but as soon as you get to the picture perfect resort town of Aberdovey, the focus turns back to golf. Set between the dunes of Aberdovey beach and the Cambrian mountains is the 6454 yard, challenging Aberdovey Golf Course. A true championship links course this hidden gem is one of the top 100 courses in UK. The course founded in 1892 is a test of patience as well as skill. Narrow fairways and tough hazards make this classic links course a worthy inclusion in any golf package.

Another course that finds itself on almost every golf tour heading Wales is the legendary Royal St. Davids Golf Course in Harlech, Gwynedd. One of the oldest courses in Wales, this 18-hole championship course has been ranked the worlds top 50 by Britains Golf World and true to its reputation is a picturesque but tough course to have on board your golf vacation.
Other courses that should beef up your golf travel itinerary are the Royal Porthcawl near the Swansea Bay and the James Braid designed Pennard Golf Course. Even with these courses your Welsh golf tour cannot be called completed although it would be fulfilling for one trip. Are you already planning the next one?
